Sama is a non-profit, creative club based in Toronto where designers and artists can collaborate on multidisciplinary projects, participate in events including workshops, talks, and markets, and gain access to unique industry insights and connections.
At the heart of the brand is the power of togetherness, with a mission to transform Toronto’s creative landscape by providing accessible and inclusive third spaces for in-person knowledge exchange, idea exploration, and connection building. Sama bridges the gap between amateurs and industry professionals, fostering partnerships and a supportive community that uplifts the next generation of creatives and drives innovation and growth through collaboration.
The Name
Sama — Derived from the Filipino word "magkasama," meaning "together," signifying the sense of unity and communal support that the brand aims to infuse into creative spaces.
The Brand Book
A comprehensive brand book detailing the brand foundation, visual identity and how the brand elements can be used across a range of applications, including a launch campaign.
The Launch Campaign
The “Start with Sama” launch campaign is designed to position Sama as a safe, welcoming and inclusive creative hub for young, emerging artists and designers in Toronto. Featuring “ugly” artwork from childhood or from the early stages of learning a new skill, this campaign uses a sense of humour and playfulness to encourage individuals to embrace their beginnings and showcases Sama as the ideal starting point for creative growth, experimentation, and connecting with others in the community.
The tagline, “Every _____ starts somewhere. #startwithsama,” is a flexible and dynamic messaging tool that celebrates a wide rangeof creative disciplines (e.g. “Every painter starts somewhere,” “Every designer starts somewhere,” etc.). This inclusivity reinforces Sama’s broad appeal and commitment to nurturing diverse talents.
To maximize reach, this imagined campaign would leverage a mix of physical and digital channels, including outdoor poster advertisements, a YouTube mini series, and an Instagram story promotion.
